Church Records

We are pleased to report that the Church Records for Bickerton and Barrow have been presented to their churches.

Each detailed Record consists of nine chapters, always in the same order e.g. Memorials, Metalwork, Stonework, Woodwork, Textiles, etc.

A team of volunteers regularly visits the church to measure, date and describe all items within.  Names of designers/manufacturers are noted, and many items are photographed: e.g. stained glass windows, items of silver, inscriptions, etc.

Apart from the Record presented to the church three other copies are sent to NADFAS House to be checked for accuracy.  Once assessed these copies are sent to the National Art Library at the V&A, the Church Buildings Council Library and to the National Monument Record Centre at Swindon.

These records are vitally important for researchers, and the public can access them at the County Record Office, the V&A Library and at Swindon.

We are very proud of the achievements of the joint group of Tarporley and Chester Church Recorders in completing these records.
