Transports of Delight: the art of the travel poster of the 1930s

Lecturer: Dr Anthony Kelly

With a notable increase in both the quantity and the quality of travel posters in the 1930s, distinguished artists who worked in the field include Cassandre, Sutherland, Matisse, Nash, Piper and Picasso. It was a particularly rich genre, creating stunning images which offer fantasy, excitement and escapism. It also provided models for inspiring patriotic and motivational posters during the subsequent war.
