From Mauve to Mumbai: the History of Colour in Textiles
from 1856 to the present day
Lecturer: Susan Kay-Williams
In 1856, an 18 year-old student discovered the first fully synthetic dye: Mauve. This opened up a whole new era of colour.
In the next 50 years there was more change than there had ever been: new colours, new textiles and new problems!
This lecture takes a social history view of colour in textiles.
